H Sarah Trading is present at the Eco-Schools Award

Tags :

This year, Green Flags Day – Eco-Schools Award, took place at the Guimarães Multipurpose Pavilion and H Sarah Trading could not miss. This event aims to recognize the work of all those who contributed to make the daily life of the school and the community where it operates. Resulting from the partnership with the Eco-Schools Program, H Sarah Trading represented the activity “Used Clothes, Not Finished”, which aims to (in) train the younger layers about the importance of textile waste management, promoting its reuse and correct referral for recycling. The Award began at 9am with Eco-Mostra, where dozens of partners were present who provided participants with the most varied activities throughout the morning. After awarding the challenge prizes for the 2018/19 school year and delivering the flag, the band “The Olives” took the stage and gave a closing concert that cheered everyone in attendance. And as we work to live in an increasingly sustainable world, this year H Sarah Trading has reused newspapers and burlap bags to wrap the prizes of the winning schools.

Live Money Unveils “Do you know what happens to used clothing? A business that helps people and the environment”

Tags :

Digital newspaper Dinheiro Vivo shared a piece of news that unraveled the curiosity of many people about the clothing used and its fate. Since the Portuguese dispose of 195,000 tons of used clothing annually and the tendency is to increase, this excellent journalistic work shows us that regardless of this situation becoming a problem for the sustainability of the planet, there is a solution. Nowadays, used clothing has become an economic activity and, with a chain of various agents, markets and sales channels, H Sarah Trading Project Manager Daniela Pereira explains that the company is starting its cycle with the collection, forming partnerships with municipalities and social solidarity institutions and creating a network of more than three thousand deposit containers throughout the country, which adds three branches to speed up the collection. In 2018, 863 tons per month were collected, or more than 10,000 tons in the year. The whole process has three destinations: donation, recovery and recycling. Product re-entry is the most commonly used path. “We want to turn the waste into raw material, that’s the goal,” he says. In 2017 accounts, reuse weighed 79.6% – donations also come in here, but they are sporadic and subject to requests. To conclude, Daniela Pereira points out that “valuation is the largest percentage of the company’s business”, being “the parts still in good condition exported to Africa and reintegrated in local markets”. There is a part (over 7%) that does not offer conditions for a second life, which is subject to ragging, and is sold for the manufacture of tapestries, insulation and fillers to India and Pakistan. In both distribution channels, the selling price is per kilo.

V Edition of the Good Habits Market – GRACE

Tags :

On April 5, we were at the Bom Sucesso Market in Porto in the 5th Edition of Corporate Social Responsibility, promoted by GRACE and Manuel António da Mota Foundation. Our presence has been, as usual, a very enriching experience. In addition to knowing several Social Responsibility practices implemented by other associated companies that also attended, we contacted several institutions from different areas of intervention. We have found our partner Fundação Allamano (Missionaries of the Consolata de Aguas Santas), who has cooperated with us since 2016 and was represented by Gorete Juvandes and Filipe Pereira. We also had the opportunity to be with Nilzete Pacheco from ALCC – Ameixoeira Criativa, who was accompanying partner GEBALIS, represented by João Paulo Marques. Dear Nilzete, she presented us the Creative Amber Project, which uses textile waste to transform it into fashion accessories. They produce unique and exclusive articles, using the most diverse and original stamping techniques, such as the use of fruits and vegetables.
